Carla Annette Fowler died at age of 14 in Bon Secours Hospital, Methuen, MA on May 29, 1976 as a result of a hit-and-run accident. The accident occurred at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 1976. She was struck by a car near her home on Beach Road near the Country Pumpkin store. She was taken to Anna Jaques Hospital, Newburyport and later transferred to Bon Secours Hospital in Methuen. She was in critical condition and unconcious until she died.

There was some doubt as to the origin of her injuries, which at first were believed to have been inflicted by a car as she was walking on Beach Road to her home. One reason there was some doubt that she had been hit by a motor vehicle was her clothing was not scuffed up or dirtied as is usually the case when a pedestrian is struck and knocked down violently. Police said "there is a little speculation she may have been struck by a person".

She is buried in the Long Hill Cemetery, Salisbury, MA.

A tribute to a special lady...

A beautiful baby.

An adorable toddler.

A lovable, respectful, clean living teenager.

A beautiful Bride.

A great loving wife and mother.

A very talented lady.

What more could a family ask for? We all enjoyed the years we had with this beautiful child and woman and are grateful for this.

In November of 1990, Jeanne, at 39 years old, was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer. We were all devastated to hear this news. Many tears were shed, but Jeanne's faith and strength sustained us more times than we were able to uplift her spirits.

She chose to be in a research study program, at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where she was being treated, hoping a new treatment would come along mostly to prolong her life, but also to help someone else down the line that would be diagnosed with this same dreaded and vicious disease.

Less than a year before she died, she walked into her art studio and proceeded to paint a very simple contemporary Xmas illustration, unlike her usual painting style of complex landscapes and seascapes. When completed, she entered this piece of work in the Holiday Card Program at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, in Boston, MA. Her illustration was one of the 10 official Christmas cards chosen for that year. Jeanne conveyed a feeling, in her card, as she quoted "I wanted to touch the hearts of many", which she did with this simplistic, homey feeling that said "Xmas" in this piece of work.

The Christmas card sales generated more than $75,000 for cancer research. Jeanne never knew of her honor as the notice came in the mail two days after she died.

She fought courageously, with the help of her husband and family for 4 years, and there is not a day that passes that she is not thought of.
