A good friend once described my photographs as an extension of myself.  That said, welcome to my world.  My goal with each photograph is to share an expression of my view of the world with you.  I hope you enjoy your visit.  If you do, please take the time to sign my guestbook.

MY THOUGHTS ON PHOTOGRAPHY

What makes a good photograph?  For me composition is key.  I am not so interested in what camera is used, what lens you had, or what settings you chose, as in what were your thoughts when you took that photograph.  What were you trying to convey?  Given that, I encourage you to read the articles on composition at the links below.  They give some excellent basics.
What are my photography pet peeves?  First, is the inability of some to pick a single, unique photograph.  So you took a trip to the lake and the sunset was just perfect.  DON'T post all 50 of the images you took when the only difference between them is how you shifted your feet. Post the best.  Post the most unique.  Make me feel as if I was there with you.  Secondly, in general I dislike framing.  I have seen some digital framing artfully and tastefully done, I have even done it on occasion myself, but most often it is distracting to the image.

How much post-processing do I do to each photo?  I usually use a light unsharp mask and perhaps levels, but my goal is to take the photo correct from the camera.  I do not like to crop.  It feels to me a bit like cheating. When I crop an image it is to straighten a horizon or to remove a distraction, and that as little as possible.
My goal with each photograph I take is, as David Hum said above, to express my passion for something else.  I love photography in and of itself, but it is more than that to me.  A recent article I read said good photography should tell a story.  I like that because I have never been a gifted writer.  My images tell the story of my life, my world, better than any words I could ever express.  I hope you enjoy it.
