I was adopted by the Monaco family on Saturday, February 6, 1993.  It was a gray day and my soon to be Dad, Mom, Sister and Brother-in-law were out having breakfast.  They were chatting about what they would do after breakfast.  Ron was trying to convince them to go to the Humane Society and then to a Boat Show.  Both men decided the Boat Show was a must, but Mom decided home was the place for  her.   It was a day to lounge around and read a book and just do nothing, She was caught up with housework, so lounging it would be.  There was no way she wanted to  go see some dogs in jail!

Now my siblings-to-be had a dog named Jessie.  She was a large, short-haired, brindle colored, pound dog they were very partial to.  When they finally convinced Mom to go to the Boat Show they said they would go to the Humane Society first, but that there was a sitting room where Mom could go sit and not see the dogs...and off they went!

When they arrived, Mom got out of the car and went inside. Lisa indicated where the sitting room was, but by this time Mom was on her way, through the gate and into the penned up area.  She walked around coming back to the building quite proud of herself for not having given in to wanting to take all the dogs home.  My brother-in-law keeping up with her, directed her to the "puppy" area.  He stepped into the pen and picked up a brindled puppy. He said, "look, a Jessie dog".

It was love at first sight  heartsmoving.gif (3724 bytes) I licked Mom's face, and as they say,"the rest is history"!

They were told that I was a half-breed.  One part was"X" for unknown, (which we later learned was greyhound), and the other part was Ridgeback.  My parents bought all the things that they thought I would need.  Food, toys, bowls, collar, leash, shampoo, flea sprays,( I list them in order of interest), and we were homeward bound!!!   Do you know what they forgot?  (See end of story for answer.)

My sister thought they should call me Spike as the hair on my back stands up (the sign of a Ridgeback), but the brindle was in stripes on my body.  I looked more like a Tiger.  My brother, when he saw me for the first time, came up with "Tigger" and henceforth I was, Tigger Spike Monaco, to family and friends!

Dad commented at that time that he was sorry I would be a small dog because I had small paws...as for Mom, she wanted a lap dog.

They both have what they want, a large dog, that likes to sit on laps!smile grin2.gif (6289 bytes)

I love to travel.  I have traveled with them through all 50 states and Canada.  I love RV'ing and seeing wild animals. When we start packing the RV, I chase around behind them ready to go.  When we (Mom and I) get into the RV, we race to see who makes it to the passenger seat first.

*What they forgot to buy was a "crate".   I had never heard of the term and neither had they!  When they did, they envisioned a wooden orange crate!  But after one night of my constant crying, (can you imagine, they wanted me to sleep ALONE on a rug?) they spoke to a neighbor  who had a puppy, and the neighbor showed them their crate, so off we went to Pet Smart (one of MY favorite places) to buy one.

Needless to say I have outgrown it and now have the run of the house!!!
