What Makes A Dad God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it ... When I
was young, you helped me And taught me all I had to know Of love and trust and faith and hope, And everything it takes to cope. You may have thought I didn't hear, Or maybe that you weren't quite clear; But all the things you taught me Were heeded very carefully, And now I want to thank you for Your love, your care, and

To
big to sit upon your knee, Too old to have you read to me, Too far from you, too many miles Too many days without your smiles. Too much to do, but had to say, I love you! Happy Father's Day |

Grandfathers are fathers who are
grand, Restoring the sense that our most precious things Are those that do not change much over time. No love of childhood is more sublime, Demanding little, giving on demand, Far more inclined than most to grant the wings Allowing us to reach enchanted lands. Though grandfathers must serve as second fathers, Helping out with young and restless hearts, Each has all the patience wisdom brings, Remembering our passions more than others, Soothing us with old and well-honed arts.

Stepfathers
are no less than those of blood: The spirit is more comely than the flesh. Equally, two mysteries might mesh, Paired by nature or by neighborhood. Fathers are defined by how they love, And not by how they multiply or breed. Though you did not supply the primal seed, How you've loved me does your kinship prove. Each child must turn when life's too hard to bear, Regarding someone's arms or empty air. So do I turn, and always you are there. |

Father's Day, contrary to popular misconception, was not established as a holiday in order to help greeting card manufacturers sell more cards. In fact when a "father's day" was first proposed there were no Father's Day cards!
Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington, first proposed the idea of a "father's day" in 1909. Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. william Smart, a civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife(Mrs. Dodd's Mother) died in childbirth with their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington State. It was after Mrs. Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent.
The first Father's Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. At about the same time in various towns and cities across America other people were beginning to celebrate a "father's day." In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national Father's Day. Finally in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day.
Father's Day has become a day to not only honor your father, but all men who act as a father figure. Stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and adult male friends are all honored on this day.

The song I use on this page
was a song I associate with my Father. He use to take us to the Lux Theater in
Panama and before the movie and during intermission they always played "Someone to
Watch Over Me". In later years as I learned the words I associated the song
more and more with my Father. Unfortunately I never thought to talk to him and tell
him that "we" had a song.I miss you,Pappi!
