Amazing the fads that filtered from the US down to the Canal Zone.  One which didn't last very long was

And then for a little while we wore pantaloons under our skirts.  Most of the fashions were brought to us
by new students coming down to the Canal Zone from the US

This Little German Band is a recent addition to life at Balboa
High School.  A brainchild of Victor Herr, BHS Music Supervisor, it was
organized several months ago to play for school atheletic events.  The musicians
play the traditional "umpha-umpha" concert music, or Dixieland Jazz.  High
school students favor the jazz, especially when played by a quintent clad in Lederhosen.
left to right are:  Steve Park, whose band name is Fritz Schnitzlebum; Mr Herr

(Aloysius Hammershlag); Charles Carden (Anton Schroeder); Jim Reese (Heinrich
