Meet Sebastian!

Hi! My name is Sebastian, but you can call me Baz. I'm a
Colombian Red-Tailed Boa Constrictor, and I live in Riverview, Florida, with
my mom & dad (you know them better as Shay & Mike). That's me (with Mom)
in the picture at left...I'm not what you'd call camera shy. That picture
was taken when I was much younger...I'm now around 6 feet long! (The photo at
the top better shows my current size.) Mom acquired me
from a friend at the end of 1995; back then, I was known as "Leroy"
(but I think the name Mom gave me suits me better).

Anyway, I know some people get a little
freaked out by snakes, but as you can see in this photo, I'm perfectly harmless.
As a matter of fact, I love curling up with Mom & Dad for a good nap. We
constrictors are not poisonous like some of our cousins, and most of us would never attack people. Mom says that the thing she loves about boas is that we're
one of the
only pets that hug you back!
Another great thing about boa constrictors? We make terrific
accessories! I mean, look at my fabulous colors...chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and
rich, deep red. And texture-wise, my skin is like satin. Really! You're welcome
to touch me and find out. (I love being petted!) And when I shed my skin,
I emerge even better-looking and smoother than ever! Let me tell you a little
bit more about myself...
Likes: Cuddling, exploring, playing
hide-and-seek, making new friends, relaxing in my water bowl, sleeping.
Dislikes: Cold temperatures, being
put back in my tank when I want to play and explore, the bad reputation some
snakes have that
make people feel afraid of me.
Personality:
Affectionate, fun-loving, friendly, clever, adventurous.
I'm a low-maintenance pet...it really doesn't take much to
make me happy. Just give me a vivarium (tank) to call my own, throw in a
water bowl and a few pieces of wood, and add
an under-tank heat source and overhead lamp to keep me
warm and cozy. My meals (a nice juicy rat) make Mom a bit squeamish, but Dad
makes sure that I eat well. Hey, I only eat about once every 3 weeks...how
"low-maintenance" can you get?! But I do need lots and lots of love and affection.
I love spending time with Mom & Dad, and I'd go
everywhere with them if they'd let
me. The picture at left shows me in my younger days, curled up in Dad's inline skate. Unfortunately,
they don't make them in my size! The other photo shows Dad teaching me how to
play computer games. It looks like a lot of fun...I just wish I had hands, so I
could play too! If you can find a place in your
heart and home for a boa constrictor, then you've got a friend for life (or at
least for 25-35 years or so...)!
If you want to see some more recent photos of me, Mom and Dad
gave me my own photo
album on WebShots!
One last thing before I go...I'd like to share some of my
favorite web sites with you, to help you get to know me and my kin a little bit
better:
