FAITH IN GOVERNMENT

" Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but
of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore
resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall
receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works,
but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is
good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God
to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth
not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute
wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only
for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For this cause pay ye tribute also:
for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to
whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor." (Romans 13:1-7).

Paul teaches about the Christians duty to obey human government. He also
teaches that our political leaders who have governmental authority are to be
considered ministers of God. Let's discuss the very foundation of government.
What is the basic purpose of government? The answer is simple really.
Governmental responsibility at its very basic level should uphold good and punish
evil. Christians and non-Christians alike are obligated to honor the authority we
have given our political leaders. We as Christians have a basic belief that God
knows all and is every where all the time. If we hold this belief close to our hearts
then we must also believe that God has placed our political leaders in their
respective positions to do His will. However, just like any other aspect of our lives
Satan infiltrates our government and our elected leaders will sometimes choose to
ignore God's will. Therefore, it is our duty as Christians to become involved with
our political leaders. Not only should we obey them but we should also become
actively involved in their activities to ensure that their actions are consistent with
the Word of God.

Are you tired of reading about the thousands of murderous abortions that occur in
this country every year? Are you tired of your children being subjected to violence
and pornography on a daily basis? Are you tired of watching evil take advantage
of the weak and poor through gambling and other evil habits? Are you tired of
watching Tobacco and Liquor companies becoming wealthy on misery and death?
Are you tired of drug dealers in our schools leading our children astray? Then it is
time for us to step up to the plate and become involved in what our leaders are
accomplishing in office. We spend our time complaining about our political leaders.
We complain about their immorality, their greed, and their self- righteousness. And
I must confess that I am as guilty as most of America. I to have been lazy and not
as involved as I should have been. Well now is the time to act!

We have a golden opportunity in this country. We are free to choose whom we
wish to have in government. We should not let this opportunity go to waste. We
can show this state, this country, and yes even this world that we as Christians are
going to stand as a united front against the evil that would take over our very lives.
How can we do this you ask? Well it begins with one simple action.
