A picture is worth a thousand words....
With that in mind this website contains more pictures than words. I've
dedicated this site to one of my favorite endeavors - amateur
astronomy. I was given my first telescope by Santa Claus
when I was six years old. It was a small 50mm refractor on an even
smaller table tripod. It came with a solar eyepiece - dangerous when you
think about it now. This telescope though, introduced me to a magnified
view of the world around me and I loved it. The Moon and the Sun were my
favorite targets and I spent many hours looking through that little
scope. From there I went to binoculars but spent more time reading about
astronomy than actually pursuing the hobby.
During my high school and college years my love for anything with
lenses continued unabated. I delved heavily into photography, which
helped me pay my way through college, shooting mostly commercial
photography for advertising in newspapers. I learned a lot from Ansel
Adams' Zone System books. This taught me how the importance of knowing
your film and exposing and developing correctly for maximum tonal range,
and depth of field.
With college graduation came lots of work and although I still
kept in touch with my photography, it was no more than a passing
interest. My work life placed such demands on me that I had neither the
time, nor the energy to pursue photography, or anything else for that
matter.
It was not until many years after from
my early experience with that first telescope, 38 to be exact, that I rekindled my affair with Astronomy. I bought an
inexpensive six-inch Dob and quickly got hooked again. Now I'm starting
to get into Astro-photography, with the help of a Celestron NexStar 11
GPS - a wonderfully capable instrument.
I will slowly be filling
these pages
with more and more pictures, drawings, sketches and links to everything related
to my hobby. So, check back often and enjoy the pictures.
