7/28/03 - What a week! I think I got 4 hours sleep in 5 days.
My birthday was on the 23rd of July and we went to a local burger
joint, Chattaways for dinner with friends. I had a great time
and got some great presents from my friends. We went back to
my house and partied til the wee hours. The next day I wound
up driving to tampa 3 times! First I went over with Carries
friend Stacey, who was visiting from new York. I showed her the
sights in Tampa, like the best thrift stores, record stores
and mexican food joints. We went back to St. Pete then I drove
back to Tampa to hang with my friends Martin Rice and Joe Popp
who were setting up to play a benifit for the Jobsite Theatre.
I drove back to St.Pete and got Carrie and Stacey and saw the
show. We wound up closing the landmark watering hole The Hub
and went back to our house. On Friday we played the Stones tribute
show at The State Theatre and then back to our house, where
everyone hung out til the wee, wee hours. After a couple of
hours sleep we got up to start the day.we went to the beach
and hung out til nine or so and went to Martin and Nattys to
watch the Led Zepplin DVD. Sunday was spent trying to recover.
Not a productive week but a fun one!

7/20/03 - Hello everybody! I started a new Howlin Wolf
portrait this week thats coming along nicely and should be done
in the next couple of days. Ive done two previous Howlin
Wolf paintings and had good luck with both of them. The first
one I did was actually the first painting I ever sold. My friend
Harry Hayward bought it and gave me encouragement to try more.
The second I traded to J.D.Sipe,
an artist I met at The Finster Fest in 2002. I traded my HowlinWolf
for a Muddy Waters. An arangement that neither subject would
probably aprove! J.D. is a great artist and really nice, supercool
guy, check him out !
On the music scene here in town, Carrie and I went to see punk
legends The Buzzcocks on Friday night. They were
a lot of fun and looked like they were having a great time.
Guitarest Steve Diggle was exceptionally entergetic, really
slamming his Telecaster around on the set ending I Believe.
My band Sparkys
Nightmare, is getting ready for a Rolling Stones Tribute
at The State Theatre Friday night. The show is a huge multi-band
event for local community radio station WMNF.
It will be three nights long at three different locations. 70
or so bands playing nothing but Stones covers! Heaven or Hell?
You decide.
Come see us if youre out.
Until later,
Hugh
7/14/03 - Hello everybody! This weekend my sweetie Carrie
and I decided to go to Orl. to see our good friend G.G. Vegas.
After talking to Mr. Vegas we were delighted to hear that rockin
legends The
Fleshtones were playing at Wills Pub.
We stopped at a thrift store in Lakeland but found nothing
. I saw some teenagers looking at records (two girls, one boy)
The boy handed one of the girls Cheap Trick -Live at Budokanto
hold. She took the record out of the sleeve and saidSo..records
have two sides.?
We got to the Vegas mansion and relaxed with a pizza before
trekking down to the show. After almost running over Peter Zaremba
and Bill Milhzer from The Fleshtones outside, we went in and
found a packed crowd for the party kings.
We saw Greg Reinel from
Nutrajet selling posters of the show at the merch table.
Greg is making some great show posters under the name Stain-boy.We
went into the band room and waited for the party to begin. The
Fleshtones hit the stage and never stopped rocking until the
last note was played. They jumped into the crowd to sing, play
guitar, dance and lead everyone out into the bar. The Fleshtones
showed what a rock and roll show should be. The band was also
very nice, signing autographs and talking to fans afterward.
I cant overstate how good they were!
Until next time,
hugh
