Design Notes:
The INS Longsword is an assault transport designed to deliver an infantry company to the battlefield. It will carry five landing craft. While configurations vary greatly, the most common configuration is to carry four infantry platoons in SSC15LCI’s and a 10std grav tank in a SSC15LCT. Efforts have been made to minimize the cost of the ship while still providing for satisfactory completion of it’s primary mission.
The shipboard heavy laser turrets and missile launcher are designed to provide fire support to the landing party. Defenses include ECM, two VRF PD laser batteries, a nuclear damper turret, two sandcaster turrets, electro-static armor and a heavily armored hull.
The onboard living quarters are divided into two major living areas for the troops, one for the officers and one for the enlisted personnel. The officer’s area features a full galley, gym, lounge, and briefing room. The enlisted men’s area features a galley, lounge and gym. The captain has a private office. The ship’s crew has a private eating area. The crew does have to share the onboard gym equipment with the troops.
The INS Longsword Assault Transport design is based upon the Classic Traveller Broadsword Mercenary Cruiser design, with modifications for T4 and TL 15.
