The Caravan class Subsidized Long Merchant is available for all major SSC LIC shipyards. It is designed as a long range, high capacity merchant. Features include 3 parsec jump range, 120 dton cargo capacity, 4 high and 12 medium passengers, high passenger's lounge with full galley, medium passenger/crew's lounge with ordinary galley, a gym, a pressurized air raft, 3 lifeboats, fuel scoops and purification for frontier refueling, and a suite of weapons systems.

Because the Caravan is designed to be used in frontier areas, the weapons systems are an important feature of the design. There is an automated VRF PD Laser system (using the flight computer and short range LIDAR) for anti-missile defense, a sandcaster for laser defense, a missile launcher and a heavy laser turret to drive off pirates.
