Design Notes:
The IMS Liberty class Assault Transport is designed to carry a full infantry battalion to the battlefield. It was designed for the Imperial Army. The contract was limited to the Imperial Army forces operating within the Verge Sector, however. There are hundreds of Liberty’s in service in the Imperial Army. The Ariisite Colonial Navy has 48 Liberty ships in service. Other colonial fleets in Verge Sector also use the Liberty class ships. Some Liberty ships have also been exported to planetary navies within Reavers Deep Sector.
The Liberty class usually carries three infantry companies each with three infantry platoons, a heavy infantry section in battledress, a support platoon and HQ personnel. In addition, there is usually a platoon of five Grav-Tanks and the battalion HQ and support personnel. To land the infantry the Liberty usually carries between 12 and17 SSC15LCI’s and for the tanks, APCs and air rafts between 5 and 10 SSC15LCT’s.
The Liberty can provide some fire support to the troops with it’s heavy laser turrets and missile launchers. For protection, the Liberty has electro-static armor, sandcasters, automated VRF PD laser batteries, a meson screen and a nuclear damper. To limit detection the Liberty is designed using stealth technology and carries a variety of masking and ECM jamming devices.
The troops quarters are set up with four-man bunk rooms for each fire team. Junior officers have small staterooms and senior officers have large staterooms. Each company has a gym, lounge, galley and briefing room. In addition, there are officers and NCOs areas with a private gym, lounge, full galley and briefing room.
There is a room set up as a command center with hookups to the secondary AES and four secondary laser communicators, one of which is monitoring each infantry company’s communications with the forth one monitoring the tanks and support personnel.
The ships crew has it’s own enlisted and junior officer’s areas with a gym, lounge, and galley (a full galley for the junior officers). The captain has an office.
There is a spacious hanger with a machine shop and electrical shop where the landing craft can be serviced or repaired.
For frontier operations, the Liberty class is streamlined for fuel skimming and she carries a fuel purification plant that can process a full load of hydrogen in 30 hours.
