Design Notes
The M-1050 Orbital Ship, Landing, General Purpose (OSLGP) is based upon the M-1050 ship design found in Set Number Seven, Orbital Assault & Landing Craft copyright 1992 by The ADJUTANT.
The OSLGP is designed to carry one infantry platoon (42 infantry) seated upon the sides of the cargo hold and 6 Grav-tanks or APCs from orbit to the planetary surface during a planetary assault. It is usually carried on a "mother ship" like the M-1040 Wasp class Assault Carrier. Of course, if it is carrying APCs, the APCs may also contain a full compliment of troops. If the vehicles are not carried, they may be replaced with up to 120std tons of cargo or 120 infantry in full battledress (with lots of surplus volume overhead). There are two hatches in both the front and rear to provide for quick loading or unloading.
The OSLGP is designed to provide fire support for the troops when they hit the ground with three dual laser turrets for offensive armaments and two automated dual VRF PD lasers for missile defense and two sandcasters for laser defense. The hull body is heavily armored and is considered impenetrable to conventional small arms and artillery fire (short of plasma or fusion weapons).
