Poor Streaming - Who's Fault Is It?

First, make sure you have an adequate connection for the channel you are trying to listen to. The requirements for each channel are listed beneath each station's title on EB Radio's main page. If you're good on that count, then read on.

My next piece of advice is this - if you're using the RealAudio Player to listen, FIND SOMETHING ELSE. RealPlayer has a nasty habit of dropping the stream on a regular basis. It's rare for this player to stream EB Radio HiBand for more than an hour at a time without having to be restarted. My personal recommendation is Winamp or use one of  Live365's players, either Radio365 or the Live365 Player. If you're currently using RealPlayer, switching to WinAmp or one of the other MP3 players is the single most significant change you can make to improve stream reliability. If you've already switched away from RealPlayer but are still having trouble listening, read on.

Stable streaming relies on a solid path between the streaming host and the listener, especially for HiBand streaming. This path includes several transfer points (called hops), any one of which can cause problems. Most people automatically assume that it's Live365's fault when they have trouble receiving the stream. The truth is, sometimes it is Live365's fault, and sometimes it's not. If you've listened to Live365 stations in the past with no trouble, then you're probably experiencing temporary congestion or ISP system trouble. Probably the best thing to do is just try again later. If you continue having problems and wish to pursue it farther, following are some troubleshooting suggestions.

A lot of helpful info can be found in the Live365 Help Section. Look for the link in the upper right hand corner of any L365 page. Specifically, go to the following URL to see all the Listening Help Topics:
http://help.live365.com/bin/topic.py?topic=1.

Check the "Audio Skipping Questions" section at the bottom of this page for some things to try.

To check if there is a network problem somewhere between Live365 and your PC go to the following URL:
http://nettools.live365.com/tools.html.

Read the bit of info on that page, then click on the Network Performance Icon. This tool can help you determine if there is a weak link between L365 and you, and if so where the weak link is. If there is no packet loss and hop pings remain below 200-300 throughout the entire path, then no network problem is indicated. In cases where there are no large numbers, but streaming quality is still poor, history has taught me that this can indicate a problem likely on Live365's system. If the reception is poor for only a few L365 stations rather than all of them, this is also an indication of trouble on L365's system.

In any case, if you want L365 to take a look at your report, follow the instructions for submitting a support request at http://forums.live365.com/viewtopic.php?t=13071.
