General Background

There are several books which comprise the Mantingh Cronicles. See the Mantingh Family Tree Summary.

The Mantingh (Mantinge, Mantinghe, Mantinc) family dates back to Henric Mantinc, who was born around the year 1290 in Mantinge, Drenthe, and Johan Mantinge, who lived in Groningen, Holland, and was born around 1480. However, there is a gap between those ancestors and the rest of the family, which starts with Willem Mantingh (1540) in Odoorn, Holland, and continues through some 14 generations and 5 branches in Odoorn and four other areas in Holland, as well as in Holland, Michigan.

All of the information in this site was obtained from Book 4 (the Zuidwolde Branch), which is the Branch to which I belong. The five branches are named for their geographical locations, as is the main trunk. The family was mainly based in Odoorn. The Dutch branches were Westdorp, Heeg,Valthermont and Zuidwolde. The fifth branch was Amerika. I am very interested in information about family members. Anyone with information is welcome to send me an e-mail.
