Father of 11 Moons

A Tribute to Dad!

Dad came to America when he was 17 years old.  He worked in Boston at a Chinese Laundry business.  He eventually came to Florida and worked as a cook at China City Restaurant, the first Chinese restaurant in the Tampa Bay area.  This is where he met and fell in love with Mom, she was a waitress at the time.  She was about 18 years old and Dad was about 33 years old.  They married and started having children, many children!  Dad eventually purchased the restaurant from his boss and friend, Johnny Gwoung. How else was he to feed us all!  My dad has always been a very hard working man ever since I can remember. Ten and twelve hour days were typical, but he always took a day off once a week to stay home.  I can remember  when I would walk home from elementary school (back when it was considered safe to walk to and from school), if I saw dad's car parked outside I ran the rest of the way home!  I  could not wait to see him, I loved taking naps on the couch next to him. What childhood memories. We've all got stories to tell, and we do tell. None of us kids really seem to know how old dad really is, but we guess he's about 77, and still working at the restaurant.  Jim, his oldest son is co-owner with him. Just goes to show, that even without a high school education you can be successful in America if you are determined and willing to work hard.
