Welcome to "Dark Age" England

This is the website of The Danelaw; the re-enactment group of Regia Anglorum North America covering Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

Originating in the United Kingdom, our group is part of a current movement in North America to take part in living history of what is often referred to as the Dark Ages.

Probably the best re-enactment society in the world in our period, we seek to accurately re-create the lives of the people who dwelt in Britain around a thousand years ago; from the time of Alfred the Great to that of Richard Lionheart.

We are a group of enthusiasts who work hard to re-create images of the past that Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, Norman and the other peoples of that far off time would find in no way unusual. Some of us are warriors, others are craftsmen and living historians - often we are all of these.

Regia Anglorum means "The Kingdoms of the English". A name used by English writers of the time to denote the "Anglo-Saxon Kingdom". Our period (circa AD 850-1150) witnessed both the height of early medieval England's power and wealth and its conquest and (at least partial) destruction. Several key events occur in Britain in and around our period and their exploration takes up most of our public activity.

Specifically, The Danelaw portrays those persons living in the east and north of England in a region historically referred to by the same name; a blend of Saxon and Viking cultures called Anglo-Danes.
