Changes and Modifications

I finally took delivery of my car in August 2005.  Almost immediately after its arrival at my house, Hurricane Katrina ripped through the Gulf Coast and I found myself deployed in support of recovery efforts.  After a couple weeks in both Mississippi and Louisiana, I finally made it home to assess my car and determine what I wanted to do next.  However, my unit soon deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and I had to wait to address the following until January 2006:

September 2005

  • Purchased a garage lift from Eagle Equipment

  • Stored the Spyder until my return from the desert

December 2005

  • I got a new digital camera to document the modification process!

Jan 15, 2006

  • Purchased period-correct chrome headlight rings and rubber seals to replace polished tin rings and to add the seals where they didn't exist before.
  • Purchased Hella H4 sealed beam headlights to correct extremely dim headlights.
  • Purchased Porsche fluted headlight lenses; period correct, not 911 style.
  • Removed prop for engine cover and carb watershield covers for chrome plating.

February 2006
  • Sent carb watershields and engine prop rod to a chrome plater in Daytona Beach
  • Bought VDO mechanical fuel pressure gauge to dress up engine (and to make sure I have 4 psi going to my 30 year old Webers)
  • Bought synchrometer for my carbs

  • Removing seats to fix problems with leather
  • Looking for a "sexier" shifter boot

April-May 2006
  • Identified problems with chrome plating; sent a few parts back for re-plating
  • Re-installed the newly chromed parts
  • Hit the road and killed my first bugs with the car
