To get to the San Juan Islands from Seattle,
you have about an 1 1/2 hour drive north to
Anacortes. From there, you take an hour ferry
ride to the San Juan Islands. There are three
major islands with ferry service. They are;
Lopez, Ocras, and San Juan. Many take an air boat
or ferry rides from Seattle or park at Anacortes
and bring only their bikes along.

A little bit of heaven. Some

My mother went along with me. Here she is
enjoying the ferry ride. There is an unimaginable
number of islands and the only way to get there
is by boat. Me being the consumate real estate
marketer, I tried to figure out the development
costs for someone to live on one of these
islands. Wells, septic, generators for
electricity, satellite for phones and television. But,
then again, maybe the reason for living on a
remote island is so you can disconnect from all
that.

We saw an abundance of widelife
is all over in San Juan. Harbor Seals, Orcas,
various birds, and Herons. We saw this seal on
our way to Victoria. |

I did have an opportunity to see
Orcas breaching but I was not quick enough with
the camera. I found this photo at the Mount Dora
Art show recently. Ironically, this wonderful
shot by Mike Bacon, was taken in the San Juan
islands. . . so, it qualifies for the San Juan
pages. |

Located north east of Friday
Harbor on San Juan is a charming port called
Roche Harbor. Its about a 10 minute drive from
Friday Harbor. Here I am standing in front of the
Hotel de Haro which is part of the Roche Harbor
Resort. The marina there runs all types of
activities including whale watching tours,
kayaking tours, and charter fishing trips. |

This is a historic place with the hotel,
condos, numberous resort boutiques and stores,
and a couple restaurants. Mom and I ate a one of
the little cafes before boarding for Victoria. I
asked a gentleman to take this shot for me. This
was the morning of my kayaking trip. |

Quit a little yachting haven and very quaint. |

We had an opportunity to see
some salmon fiherman bringing in a fresh catch. |

This is right outside Roache Harbor. It is
called The musoleam. In the center is a table and
chairs made out of solid marble. The chairs serve
as head stones having the name, dates of birth
and death carved on the backs. A different
experience, but on the hike there and back we saw
a family of deer!
